About the SAM Interview Summit
Although similar to many on-campus interview programs, the SAM Interview Summit stands apart in being one of the most flexible programs to join for ambitious students who desire the chance develop themselves professionally. Consider the job interview for a moment. Spending twenty to thirty minutes with a total stranger, this person will subsequently decide whether or not someone will ever have the chance of working for their company. Most people hope to avoid being disqualified, thinking that with one little mistake, one little error, “I’m history”.
The entire interviewing process has been perceived as absurd. That still does not negate the fact that someone will not get a job without correctly playing the interviewing game. To gain insight into this game each interviewer has been instructed to give immediate feedback based on students’ performance after the interview; so students whether or not they get hired or left second-guessing and will know how to improve!
Statistically, our on-campus interview program has been an outstanding starting point to build from based off of initial performance and the feedback given. However, to get anything out of the program, students have to want to improve and must choose to care about how the interviewer perceives and profiles them. If students expect to receive positive feedback and have a chance at a job, they will need to effectively engage the interviewer using exceptional interpersonal communication skills, confidence in leadership and ability to articulate, quantify, and emphasize various successful life achievements and skill sets. This is because we’ve recruited top-notch companies to scrutinize the students resume and critique how professionally refined the student presents themselves.
In general, to maximize the interviewing success, students need to maximize both the quality and quantity of the interviews, they participate in. It is not enough to just show up for the interviews and hope that someone will miraculously offer a job. The responsibility lies on the individual have to perform at their peak to gain mileage from interviewing. It’s an employers’ market out there and they are going to pick the absolute best candidate they can find.
